The Living Art of Chi Kung

"The Living Art of Chi Kung is an accessible manual, taking the reader through how, what and why to practise Chi Kung. Chi Kung has a remarkable relevance to life today, as do the Taoist principles on which it is based.

The ancient Taoist teachings and practises are made simple and approachable

with a combination of unique descriptions, analogies, anecdotes and illustrations.

The title of the book encapsulates my intention of taking the ancient Taoist art and making it accessible and relatable, of pointing towards possibilities, rather than being a focused academic text.

I’ve aimed to convey the subtleties of practise and their relevance today, and provide an accessible manual for anyone who’s interested in Chi Kung, or even just some body focused awareness."

Living - I’ve discussed a few bigger life topics, included some quotes from the Tao Te Ching (Using the excellent translation by Stephen Mitchell), that describes how some aspects of life could be understood through a Taoist perspective and supported or informed through your Chi Kung practice.

"I hope this book brings you some of the joy that underpins Lizzie’s teaching.  Our mind, our body and our hearts will all need attention as we step out in to the new world. The wonderful thing about Chi Kung is it helps all three.

Everyone can find something to help their mind, body and heart in this book."

"I see my work as supporting people to find their own version of whole again, and allow a sense of balance and flow back into their lives and bodies.

When we hold ourselves in any state of emotion, thought pattern, physical tension or posture, or even spiritual crisis we create a block in our flow of life.  Allowing such blocks to shift is what allows Chi, or energy or our chemistry to constantly flow into balance, allowing us to flow more easily through through our body and also through life thus getting stuck less often."

Lizzie Slowe grew up in North London, as a promising classical Cellist, and went on to briefly attend the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. After a few years of rebellion, she spent some time living in Brighton, London, living in a tipi in Wales and travelling in India.

She trained in Shiatsu and Chi Kung with the European Shiatsu School under teachers including Chris Jarmey, Julie McBride and Daverick Legget, and went on to study at the Shiatsu College with teachers including Nicola Ley, Cliff Andrews and Pauline Sasaki. Lizzie worked full time as a Shiatsu Practitioner and teacher and Chi Kung instructor in London, Brighton and Ayrshire in Scotland, in settings including addiction services, substance misuse centres, refuges, health centres and private clinics, and teaching for the European Shiatsu School.
